Now that all Aged Care facilities are in lock-down across South Australia, due to the Covid-19 virus, I know it will be very difficult for residents to get their glasses replaced/fixed, if they are lost or broken. Opti-Call Aged Care Service Pty Ltd (OCACS), are offering the following service to all Aged Care Facilities across South Australia. This will at least give the residents a chance to have a better quality of life in the event of lost or broken glasses during the lock-down. Where Opti-Call currently service in-house annual Eye Health Clinics:
  • If resident has a current eye test, and has previously been supplied glasses by OCACS
    • REPLACE – all lost or broken glasses
    • REPLACE frame - if frame broken and frame available, insert existing lens into new frame
  • If resident has a current eye test, but has not been supplied glasses by OCACS:
  • REPLACE – broken glasses if both the lens and the broken frame are available. Facility staff to measure the PD click on the following link - distance between the centre of eyes
  • REPLACE – lost glasses. Facility staff to measure the PD click on the following link - distance between the centre of eyes, and identify the type and size of the glasses, e.g. Multifocal, metal or plastic size 53-17,
Where OCACS do not currently service in-house annual Eye Health Clinics: If resident has broken glasses and both lens and frame are available:
    • REPLACE broken glasses. Facility staff to measure the PD click on the following link - distance between the centre of eyes
    • REPLACE lost glasses - If resident has lost glasses and there is a current eye test available. Facility staff to measure the PD click on the following link -  distance between the centre of eyes,  and identify the type and size of the glasses, e.g. Multifocal, metal or plastic size 53-17.
Service Price 
  • The OCACS service is Free of Charge
  • The cost of supplying the glasses to the residents are as follows:
    • DVA glasses – F.O.C as Medicare Human Services pay for them
    • Single Vision Near glasses - $260 (lens and frame) + $20 postage
    • Bifocal glasses - $370 (lens 1.5 and frame) + $20 postage
    • Multifocal - $380 (lens 1.5 and frame) + $20 postage
    • For transition – an extra $75
    • For grind or prism – an extra $50
    • For high prescriptions where a thinner 1.6 or 1.67 lens are required – a quote is given

Seven days a week 0800 - 1800

Communication / Process to Interact with OCACS
  • Facility call OCACS Lesley on 0419 807 851, or email to info@opticall.com.au, and identify the residents name, type of lens, and whether the glasses are lost or broken
  • On request from OCACS, facility post any broken glasses to:
  • Opti-Call Aged Care Services Pty Ltd, PO Box 32, Morphett Vale, SA 5162
  • Facility identify NOK contact details – mobile and email address to enable OCACS to gain approval for glasses
  • Once the glasses are paid for and the glasses have been made, OCACS will post those new glasses to the facility/resident
  • OCACS will email the facility when the glasses have been posted in an overnight bag
  • The facility will then email OCACS to advise when the glasses have arrived, and if the glasses are fitting ok
  • If there is an issue with the glasses not fitting, OCACS can visit facility reception and adjust at reception, once adjusted the nurses take the glasses back to the resident.
